Summer 2019 Student Camp
DAY 1. Arrive at camp for a welcome reception, introduction of new friends and check in to Student Accommodation at the nearby Accommodation centre.
Day 2. Morning; Academic Class introduction – Language Assessment. Farm Lunch. An exciting beginning to your first day in the life of a Shepherd - afternoon introduction to Sheep Dog Herding & instruction commands for the dogs to herd the Mountain Sheep.
Day 3. Morning English Language Class. Lunch. Afternoon Local Beach walk by the Atlantic Ocean where the Students will apply their morning English language lesson through fun and active beach games . A thrilling introduction into the landscape, grazing properties, coastal erosion & Atlantic Sea Life.
Day 4. Sightseeing Trip on Achill Island – experience breathtaking Scenery, visit the tallest cliffs in all of Europe! Achill experience aquarium touch sea urchins, sea creatures– see rare blue Lobsters, White Lobster, Orange Lobster and Atlantic Sea Wild Life at its best! Throughout the day the students will apply their English Language lessons. Lunch on Achill Island. Evening buffet dinner in farmhouse.
Day 5. Morning: Introduction to Sean Nos Dancing & Bodrahan Playing Lessons - Students will learn the steps of a fun Irish Dance resulting in a Group Dance Session. The Students will also learn the technique of the Bodrahan (a traditional Irish Drum) this will result in a Farmhouse Ceile (a session of traditional Irish Music, Song & Dance). Afternoon: Outdoor activity Confidence building course of high rope climbing & enjoy the thrill of rope bridge navigation!
Day. 6. Morning English Language Session. Farm Lunch. Afternoon – Fun Mountain Treasure Hunt - the students will receive an introduction to Map reading and basic applied navigation skills to participate in a team treasure hunt on one of Ireland’s largest farms.
Day 7. Morning English Language Lesson. Killary Fjord Boat Cruise – Taking in the history and breath-taking scenery of Ireland’s only Fjord. Students will see the abundance of rich shellfish farms along the way and learn about past and present ways of life on the Fjord. Lunch. Evening games
Day 8. Gold Panning activity. Introduction to the glaciation period and the rich gold deposits in the area. Students will receive a demonstration of gold panning techniques and will participate in this fun and rewarding activity! Lunch. Afternoon Sheepdog Herding activity.
Day 9. Outdoor adventure day packed with river mountain bike riding & Archery! Lunch and the action packed day of fun outdoor activities will be continued in the afternoon with wild mushroom foraging through an ancient Irish woodland.
Day 10. English Language Class. Lunch. Mountain Hike taking in breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, Clare Island, the ancestral home of our famous pirate queen, Grainne Uaile, the hike will continue
up by the Carrowniskey River, one of the cleanest rivers in Ireland and will include a hike down some cliffs to a beautiful set of waterfalls on one of Ireland’s largest farms!
Day 11. Exploration day of Horseback trekking on the Wild Atlantic Way, explore coastal and mountain treks on horseback. Picnic Lunch. Evening games at Accommodation Centre
Day 12. Morning Lively traditional Irish Music Session. Lunch. Coastal Beach Time for reconnecting with Nature, team gettogether and a ‘Mindfulness Session’ connecting with oneself, embracing life and oneself.
Day. 13 – This is a fun filled party packed Graduation Day! Each Student will be presented with a Certification of Course Completion followed by a lively graduation party.
Day 14. A reluctant farewell of Irish Blessings and good wishes and the Students will depart to return home.
In conclusion the thrilling adventure of daily life on the farm and access to thrilling activities serves two purposes; it educates the individual in continuing language usage, agriculture skills and confidence building in their own leadership skills and personal development. It provides a balance in cross cultural education, bridging nations and building friendships for a lifetime.
